This site and many of the underlying capabilities were developed with funding from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Coastal Services Center, the Office of Naval Research (ONR), and the NOAA Integrated Ocean Observing System program (NOAA/IOOS)®.

OOSTethys and the Oceans IE are SURA/SCOOP initiatives, and represent the SURA/SCOOP contribution to the NSF-funded Marine Metadata Interoperability project (MMI). The goal is to create a collection of open-source software tools and guidance documents (reference implementations & cookbooks) that makes it easy for anyone to serve their data OGC-compliant web services. The present implementation complies with standards underlying the OGC Sensor Web Enablement (SWE) initiative.
